Something to Ponder:
What do you really want?

~For What You Dream Of~

It's been almost twenty years since three short words strung together created one of the world's most recognizable marketing brands ever. There's no denying the impact those eight letters have had in the sports apparel industry. Two decades later, a brilliant slogan and ad campaign are no doubt still generating huge profits for the company. I'll admit I've bought plenty of running shoes with the famous swoosh over the years, but I'm not writing to profess my love for Nike. Nor am I here to discuss how important it is to craft a solid brand when it comes to building a business. Those three simple words have reminded this world-class procrastinator (that would be me!) that the time has come to "Just Do It".

That phrase has left me staring into the mirror at the end of many of my days and wondering why. Why haven't I pursued one of my most cherished dreams yet? I know I'm not the only person who questions the events of their day just as they're about to head off to the Land of Nod. I'm sure there are plenty of other folks who ponder about their lives as they go about performing their bedtime rituals. I suppose I take some comfort in knowing there are others just like me who wonder about missed opportunities and yet-fulfilled dreams, but I still feel the deep-longing ache. This is not a nightly guilt-trip I go through although my thoughts have been known to keep me awake on many an occasion. This has been more of a gentle prodding, a persistent whispering of my soul to be my word and take action.

The truth is... I've used so many excuses to justify why I haven't done what I've been saying I've wanted to do for the last seven years that I have finally run out of them. The persistent whisper has suddenly transformed into a constant head-banging howl. Those three simple words have inspired me to go after something that's so crazy-big that my heart is all aflutter as I'm about to type the next sentence and tell you about it.

Writing in the place of my dreams...Santorini, Greece.

I'm going to write the rough draft of my first book in 90 days.
Not only am I going to do that, I'm going to be sharing my inspirational (and perhaps a bit insane) adventure on my blog, The Ultimate Yes and I want to invite you to join me. What's one of your dreams that you could use some support around? What would you be willing to do in the next three months for what you dream of? What might be an Ultimate Yes for you right now? If this sounds like something you want to take on in your own life, let me know. I'd love to be on your support team and I'd be happy to provide a link on my blog to yours. I know I'm going to need a huge amount of help from my friends and family and from strangers I don't even know and so I'm putting myself out there in this way to get the support I need and to create big-time accountability.

Give some thought to what has stopped you from going after what you want and perhaps you'll come up with the same answer I did. Yes, money or time might be a factor. Yes, not knowing exactly how to make that dream come true might have postponed your plans, but let's get real. We're the ones responsible for getting in our own way. No one else but me has allowed my fears to talk non-stop nonsense. No one else but me has dilly-dallied over nonsensical things. I'm not beating myself up. I'm just being honest and up-front. If you feel like me and you've grown weary of just talking about that dream of yours, let's take some action and just do it together. Let's not delay another day.

Five More Simple Inspiring Slogans

1) Be You.

2) Reach out and touch someone.

3) It's the real thing.

4) I'm lovin' it.

5) My bologna has a first name...
(I'm kidding on this one, but I couldn't help putting it in here.)

I think what truly prevents most of us from having what we really want is our own wavering sense of self. We can be entirely confident one minute and a complete coward the next. It's as though we sit astride an ego teeter-totter never knowing quite when or if we'll ever find that point of balance. For me, the recent realization that the ride will continue to go up and down no matter what I do has been an important one. I can choose to either do things that take me closer to my dream of writing and publishing a book or further away from it.

Here's another truth...if you want something bad enough you probably already know what you need to do in order to make it happen. Going after what you dream of doesn't have to be difficult. Pay attention to what's closest to your heart. Listen to that voice that tells you what you love. And then, my dear friend... it really can be quite simple...just do it.

Personal Recommendations for books, music, websites and all resources fun!

Sloganizer
Spend some time with this fun and creative word-generating gem and you might just come up with the next greatest slogan of all time. Depending on the word you choose and what the program dishes out, it's quite possible that you'll end up with a stitch in your side from laughing so hard. I'll admit that a few of the slogans that popped up after I entered a word had me snorting out loud. You'll have to check it out to see what I mean because if I shared with you some of the words I chose, I'd probably have to put a PG-13 disclaimer in my newsletter. This generator can turn out some inspirational creations as well and if you really like what shows up on the screen, you can stick your slogan on a t-shirt. Here are a few slogans that I came up when I entered the word 'dance' and 'play';

"There’s a bit of Dance in all of us."
"Saved by Dance"
"Be inspired by play"
"Do you know play?"

The website encourages visitors to try out their slogan-generator, but they also mention the danger of addiction. I'll second that warning. I became a little obsessed with what slogan would pop up next, but not so much so that I ended up with a t-shirt.

Pandora & iTunes
Talk about addiction! Music enthusiasts beware! I'm sure most of you are aware of iTunes and those of you who have been reading my newsletter for awhile may remember me recommending Pandora a year or so ago. Combining these two music portals together can create what I call 'new music mania'. Here's how it works (and both programs are free so long as you don't hit the buy button): Download iTunes onto your computer and subscribe to the free service at Pandora. On Pandora, you create your own personal radio stations based upon the kind of music you like. What this program does is introduce you to other artists that have a similar sound to the bands you already listen to and love. When you hear a song you like, go type out the group's name on iTunes to discover what the rest of the c.d. is like. That's where the addiction begins so make sure your bank account or visa card is ready to handle your musical inclinations and financial transactions. I know I've already made someone a mint out there. My hope is that some of the money I've spent goes to the artists themselves. Here are a few of my latest discoveries and purchases that I recommend you check out: Ryan Farish, Ruth Ann (she's the female voice of Enigma), Amethystium, De/Vision and Beth Waters.
What's Up at Playful Spirit?

Well...(said with a sheepish smile) other than the fact that my newsletter is two weeks late, I've been terribly distracted lately. In fact, for the past two months, I've been working part time as a server at a small restaurant here in Cannon Beach. I wanted to immerse myself more in the small community I now live in full-time. While it's been fun meeting both locals and world-traveling tourists, I've ignored much of my writing and have used this gig as a waitress as a huge excuse. Not writing is no longer an option for me. It feels really good to let go of something when you know that what you’re about to take on is something you really want.

I feel the same way about dancing as I do about writing. A day just doesn't seem right unless I've danced. Whether it's a solo spin out on the beach or dancing with others in a sweet space, dance is in my bones. The class that my girlfriend and I began almost two months ago is growing steadily, however I find myself struggling sometimes with what I want and what is so. I want twenty dancers showing up every week and right now we usually average six people. A little reframing helps to embrace what is so. We've seen new faces almost every week and we already have what I would call 'regulars'. So in the interest of having more dancers show up, we're taking the next step and expanding our offerings come January. We found an amazing space in Astoria which is where we're planning on holding additional classes and special events. Stay tune for the exciting launch of our movement center. Tsunami is coming soon!

What's Your Next Step?

My women's retreat at the beach, Begin Again – A Weekend Sojourn by the Sea is now just three months away. There's a little more than two weeks left to take advantage of a $50 early-registration discount and if this is something you've been considering attending, now's the time to act. This three day event will give you time away to go within as well as time to get out and explore the beauty of the Oregon coast. The retreat is January 18-20 and includes two nights' accommodations in a beautiful home with an incredible ocean view, all meals (we're going to have our very own personal chef!) and plenty of memorable activities and engaging conversations. Please check out my website for more information and then call or email me if you have additional questions. Let's have a conversation soon! If attending this retreat is something you really want to do, just do it, right?

Ways to Play Today

Why not...create a dream board?

This is the perfect thing to do on a rainy fall day especially if you dream about being in warm, sunny places. It's simple and seductive. Taking what you dream of out of your head and seeing it on something other than the back of your eyelids is grand. Ready? Here's all you need; a big piece of paper, crayons or other colorful writing implements, magazines, glue stick and scissors. Rip and snip out images and words that speak to you. Don't think about what they might mean, just tear out those pages. What colors are your dreams? Add a splash of paint or doodle a design. Let your imagination take over and leave your creativity gremlins behind. What do you really want? Don't be afraid to paste a picture on your board of what you're truly passionate about. Remember these are YOUR dreams coming to life on a canvas. Place your dream board in a prominent place so you can see it every day. If you can create your dreams on a piece of paper, you are absolutely capable of creating them in your life.

Why not...read a book in a day?
If that sounds a little indulgent, then this suggestion is definitely one you should consider. This is not about being a sloth. This is about being committed to beginning and finishing something within a certain period of time. Think about it. How many books line your shelves that you've been meaning to read someday? What would it be like to get lost in a really good story for an entire day? Imagine yourself in comfortable clothing. Perhaps it's your favorite jammies and soft slippers. Think of sweet space within your own home where you can snuggle up and settle in. A place where you can be uninterrupted and undisturbed is best. A roaring fireplace or woodstove, hot chocolate, and a cozy blanket are your companions for the day. Before you take your day, make sure you take care of anything that may distract you from your book reading. Don't have any to-do lists lingering around. Clear out the space you'll be spending time in. Clear out your head. This day is about taking time out for you and a very good story.
